I am a BHS Accredited Professional Level Five Performance Coach in Complete Horsemanship – or a BHSI in old money – and a BE Level 3 Coach.
I enjoy working with riders at all levels but particularly competition riders and career students. I have competed in British Eventing, British Showjumping and British Dressage so have a broad knowledge across the three disciplines.
I work closely with my daughter Franki, who holds her Pony Club A test, in producing young horses into eventing which I thoroughly enjoy and find most rewarding.
We have been at the yard in Arkesden – just outside Saffron Walden – for 4 years now and have had a super busy 2025 with horses of all shapes and sizes coming in for short or long term stays.
I do enjoy the practical side of working with horses as I feel it keeps my hand in when I am working with students in preparation for both Pony Club and BHS exams.
This year I have had a 100% pass rate with my Pony Club members who passed their C+ and B tests – I was very proud of all the hard work they put in!
Pony Club / Riding Club
I am Chief Instructor of the Essex Hunt North branch of the Pony Club and have held that position for over 15 years.
The Pony Club National Championships
We were the winner of the Naf Club of the Year back in 2020 which was by public vote so that was lovely recognition of all the hard work everyone puts into Essex Hunt North Pony Club.
I train our teams that represent the branch at Regional and National level. We have had wins with our Novice Eventing team at the National Championships following on from a second place previously and numerous other placings for teams and individuals!
2024 saw Essex Hunt North win the 100 Eventing at the Championships which was unbelieveably exciting.
This year we had yet more success at the. This time for our dressage team who won! With this and numerous other placings for our Eventing teams and individual riders made for another successful Champs.
This is undoubtably my favourite time, not only watching our members perform on the main stage but spending time with ‘old’ friends and making new ones!
Pony Club Tests
I also train the older members who take their PC tests which are recognised world wide!
I am a Pony Club assessor and assess at all the levels to A test.
The Academy
This year sees the launch of my on-line training study books.
When I am training members I’m often asked where they can find revision notes. There is a lot of stuff on line and available to buy but I didn’t really know what to recommend so I thought I would write my own and that is what I have spent most of this year doing – and will probably spend 2026 doing the same!!
To find out more visit the Academy page on this site, so far I have The Spurs Test and the C+ Horse and Pony Care Study guide ready and the B Test Care will be ready early in 2026 so keep an eye out for that.
I love my work with the Pony Club and we have one of the largest branches in the area of over 100 members, so lots of events always going on. I run regular show jumping training over the winter and both show jumping and cross country when the weather is better! I
I am available for clinics on any of the disciplines for other branches or run a course for members to train for their tests.
If this something your branch, or Riding Club, may be interested in then do send me a message.
British Horse Society
I also work closely with our local BHS Riding School, Brook Cottage Farm, not only preparing the staff and students for their BHS assessments but also training riders, who don’t have their own horses, on the school’s schoolmasters. I enjoy working with riders who have an aim such as the BHS assessments and now, as the system has changed, I feel that these qualifications are on the up!
I run regular online Zoom Courses for Pony Club members who are preparing for their tests, from C+ to AH, and for students working towards their Stage 3 and 4. These have been incredibly popular with attendee’s from all over the British Isles, and beyond, which has been great fun!
I spent five years as an Equine lecturer at The Agricultural College in Milton, assisting in the running of Level 2 and 3 courses. I learnt a lot during my time there and this really helps me now to assist riders get the most from their horses and how they care for them.
